Pet food from Denmark reaches nearly 500 dogs and cats

Støt Ukraine continues to collect and deliver emergency aid to Ukraine. This time, several pallets of pet food from Denmark have reached dogs and cats that have become victims of the war. The food was donated by AniCura Dyrenes Butik in Herlev, and Charlotte F Andersson helped Støt Ukraine transport the large donation to Ukraine.

Some of the food was then delivered by our volunteer Oksana Istratii to “Novyi Svit – Voiny Svitla” (Новий Світ – Воїни Світла), where Ruslana lives and cares for nearly 500 dogs and cats every day.

Many of these animals come from war-affected and liberated areas. They once had homes and families. Some have lost their owners because people were killed during the war. Others have become separated from their families or fled in panic during explosions and shelling. The war has destroyed the homes and communities where they lived, leaving many of them with no one to care for them.

Some animals arrive with severe injuries. There are dogs and cats that have lost a leg or an eye or suffer from other consequences of the war. They are rescued from affected areas and brought to safety, where they receive food, treatment and care, and are spayed or neutered.

That is why donations of pet food are not just practical support. They are essential for places like this to take in, feed and care for hundreds of animals every single day.

A place with a special story

The story behind this place is closely connected to fallen Ukrainian soldier Vladyslav Bezkrovnyi.

Vladyslav volunteered to defend Ukraine and had a great love for animals. He was killed on 27 January 2024 while carrying out a combat mission in the Serebrianskyi Forest.

After his death, his family chose to honour his memory through something that had meant a great deal to him. They purchased a larger property in the countryside so that Ruslana could expand her work and rescue and care for even more dogs and cats.

Today, Ruslana lives there with the animals and has dedicated her life to caring for them. Dogs and cats continue to be rescued from war-affected and liberated areas and brought here, where they receive the treatment, food and care they need.

Vladyslav Bezkrovnyi

Støt Ukraine extends its sincere thanks to AniCura Dyrenes Butik in Herlev and to all the Danes who continue to support Ukraine. Our deepest respect goes to Ruslana and the family of Vladyslav Bezkrovnyi, who have allowed his love for animals to live on through this work. May the memory of Vladyslav Bezkrovnyi be honoured.

Would you like to support our work?

We continue our work providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine, collecting donations and transporting emergency relief from Denmark. For us, delivering emergency aid to Ukraine is not just about getting a donation across the border. The aid must reach the people and animals who need it.
