Winter in Ukraine

The hardest time of year for civilians

Attacks on power plants and the grid leave many families without electricity for hours – sometimes for days. Without power there is often no heating, no hot water and no light.

In winter, temperatures often drop far below freezing. It hits hardest those who already have the least: older people, children, the sick, and families who have fled their homes and now live in temporary housing.

Close to the front, many shops are closed and supplies are hard to get through. There, a warm blanket, a sleeping bag or a power bank can make a big difference.

How we help

What we send to families this winter

We coordinate the aid based on the specific needs our contacts in Ukraine report.

Warm clothing, blankets and sleeping bags

Thermal blankets, sleeping bags, wool socks and hand and foot warmers help families stay warm in unheated homes and shelters.

Long-life food

Tinned and other long-life food keeps for a long time and can reach even the most exposed areas.

Power and light

Power banks and portable power stations keep phones, lamps and essential equipment running when the grid fails.

Christmas gifts for the children

Toys and small gifts give children who have been through far too much a moment where they can simply be children.
